Mark A. Swickard, D.C.
My father was a chiropractor so you could accurately say that I have been surrounded by chiropractic all my life. At a very young age I saw how many lives my father had changed because of his strong belief in chiropractic. Something stirred in me as a child and young adult when he would tell one of his success stories, sharing how a patient who had been everywhere else turned to chiropractic as their last resort. He was almost always able to help them. It inspired me to want to do what he did, so it wasn't "if" I would become a chiropractor, it was "when".
After graduating from Kansas State University with a Physical Science degree, I attended Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City. After graduating in 1988 I joined my father in practice where for 3 years I gained valuable "on the job" experience. I then relocated my practice to Shawnee in 1991 and practiced in the same building until 2007, when I realized a life-long dream and designed and built a new office building. I took great care in the design of our new space to create a relaxing, yet energetic healing environment with the latest state-of-the-art technology and treatment.
From the beginning my practice has focused on treatment of families and children seeking care for optimal health and wellness. In 1996, I furthered my training becoming certified in the treatment of sports injuries and I have always enjoyed working with athletes of all kinds for specialized injury care and prevention.
My wife, Michele, and I reside in Stilwell, Kansas with our 3 children, Riley, Jake and Sam. Having grown up in the Kansas City area I'm very familiar with the home-town environment that Shawnee and the surrounding cities have to offer the residents of our great community. I felt particularly familiar with the strong sense of community Shawnee had to offer 17 years ago, which has only reinforced my commitment to positively impact the health of our local residents through a desire to deliver quality care honestly and with integrity.
During my free time you will see me spending time with my family and enjoying my children's activities. I'm an avid outdoorsman and love a good game of golf.
Kristin A. Coleman, D.C.
I grew up in a family of chiropractors, so I was exposed to the benefits of chiropractic medicine at a young age. I was very active and involved in a variety of sports and athletic activities from elementary school all the way through college. Chiropractic care has helped keep me strong, healthy, and injury-free throughout my life as an athlete, and it continues to keep me healthy today. I was fortunate to grow up with chiropractic medicine, and I am excited to give the same opportunity to my patients of all ages.
As a chiropractor, it is my goal to reduce and eliminate your pain, but to also find the cause of your discomfort and fix it. Our bodies were made to move, but when they don't move the way they should, we end up with pain, injury, or dysfunction. Proper spinal movement is especially important because it affects the nerves that control everything in the body. I detect faulty movement patterns and help restore proper movement through adjustments and other treatment tools, resulting in less pain and restored function.
I use chiropractic manipulation, nutritional counseling, acupuncture, therapeutic exercises, kinesiology tape, Active Release Technique, spinal decompression, instrument assisted soft tissue manipulation, dry needling, and many other treatment modalities to treat conditions including but not limited to neck pain, back pain, headaches, sciatica, shoulder pain, knee pain, hip pain, allergies, plantar fasciitis, elbow, sports injuries, and much more. My goal is to find the cause of your condition, get you out of pain, and then correct the problem to prevent future episodes of discomfort. I love working with people of all ages and would love to help you and your family live your best life. Chiropractic uses a natural treatment approach, free from surgery and drugs.
I live in Prairie Village with my husband, Dan, and dogs, Calvin and Bo. I am originally from a small town in Michigan's Upper Peninsula where the winters are cold and snowy, but the summers are gorgeous! In my spare time, I love spending time outdoors and doing everything from playing sports and gardening to brewing beer, exploring new restaurants, and attending athletic events. I'm gaining an appreciation for some of the Kansas sports teams, but I will always support the Packers in the fall and root for Tom Izzo and Michigan State during March Madness.
